about

(sorry this isn't much like my usual stuff--if you don't like it, please hold on for more new tunes coming eventually!)

a series of experiments in a sort of digital minimalism using pxtone. the goal was to use pxtone's delay effect to produce tunes that consist of a minimal amount of event data but still develop over time in an interesting way,

"events" include note on/off, velocity, pitch, parameter setting (including instrument, effect assignment); but not effect definition.

the pxtone delay effect has the following limitations:
- maximum of four instances
- single decimal place precision frequency per beat, measure, or second
- whole number percentage feedback rate
- one channel can only be assigned to one effect at a time
...which means certain sounds required interesting workarounds or calculations. I describe these and many other tidbits in excruciating detail in the track comments--click "info" next to each track if that sounds interesting to you.

the main tracks have minimal post-processing; just to trim silence off of the end (and add a brief fade in the case of no.20), which also could have been done fully within pxtone via the export dialog.

the "coda" tracks are the result of more invasive post-processing (cheating!)--they amplify an extremely quiet segment of the end of some tracks, exposing a bitcrush-like effect as the signal is dampened into the range of fewer and fewer bits of amplitude.

thanks for listening, please enjoy!

(you can investigate some of the .ptcop files for yourself on ptweb www.ptweb.me/profile/19; let me know if one is missing that you're interested in and I will upload it or send it to you.)
