I wrote this (along with "Confrontations") as part of a composition study that wrapped up my music studies in college. I iterated on it over several weeks with feedback from my professor. the main goal was to practice form; this piece is in a sort of sonata form. I found this restricting at first but learning to work within the restrictions was rewarding. the style retains some distinctly un-classical tropes that I sorta failed to fight off, despite my best efforts. I wanted to keep some of my jazzy harmony but resist "one chord per bar" and "chords + melody" texture; there is some counterpoint in there but it feels a little shoehorned in. I am happy with how I developed/varied the themes. I put all this practice to use and tried even more new things with "Confrontations"!
