I wrote this for GHOSTS vs. VAMPIRES, a special halloween pxtunes event in which participants joined a team that also served as the theme for their tune:

The team choice was obvious for me, I think I have a much stronger personal identification with ghosts... the concept of "ghost waltz" also came pretty quickly (though in the end this is stretching the definition of a waltz). I think the primary image in my head was a scene of ghostly merriment in an abandoned manor, with ghosts of inhabitants re-enacting dances and parties of years past, on the one night of the year they are allowed to return to this special place. I tried to capture the mystery, the joy, the mischief, and the melancholy of this scene, approaching the sound of ghosts from different angles.
The middle section simulates various tricky violin techniques like melodies in octaves, chromatic runs, left hand pizz, arpeggios across the strings, etc. I was inspired a little by the violin solo in the "Danse Macabre" and pictured the spirit of a great virtuoso entertaining the ghost party.
